- SEP - Science and Engineering Practices: static.nsta.org/ngss/20130509/AppendixF-ScienceAndEngineeringPracticesInTheNGSS_0.pdf
- CCC- Cross Cutting Concepts:static.nsta.org/ngss/20130509/AppendixG-CrosscuttingConceptsFINAL.edited_0.pdf
Timeline: California adopted NGSS in 2013 with a 5 year implementation plan. This is the first year that students will be officially tested on the NGSS in grades 5, 8, and H.S. (The past two years were a pilot and field test).

Helping Your Child Learn Science EVEN if you DON'T feel confident about your own science knowledge.
Nice article about encouraging children's love of science: www.edutopia.org/blog/encouraging-science-at-home-bob-pflugfelder
It's Ok if you do not know the answer - it can be fun to learn together.
Foster a sense of wonder about the world.
Spend time in nature.
Cook with your kid - a LOT of math and science can be learned through cooking - especially if you begin to ask WHY.
Go to the sea center, aquarium, zoo, natural history museum, MOXI, etc..
