People of all ages can help scientists by participating in research at home. The website scistarter.org has many resources to help find a project of interest. Some projects appealing to children include project feederwatch and nature's notebook. Spring WildflowersWilderness Youth Project has an excellent guide to spring outdoor activities, including making a wild edible salad. The hillsides are blue-grey from the blooming wild lilac (ceonothus). The lilac flowers are a natural soap. Take a few buds and a bit of water and rub them until they lather.
